New construction project at the Fassmer shipyard

As a result of an order from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), the ATAIR, a survey, search-and-rescue and research vessel, is being built at the Fassmer Shipyard in the north German river port town of Berne. R&M is supplying a turnkey package for this project, consisting of the development, design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning of all equipment and insulation.

The items and services being supplied by R&M for the 74-meter-long vessel ATAIR II include, among other things, the laying of surface, exhaust and pipe insulation; acoustically insulated floating decks; prefabricated bathrooms; wall, ceiling and door systems; flooring, the galley, cold rooms, a laundry, a sauna, furnishings, decorative items and laboratory furniture.

The ATAIR II the world's first seagoing authority vessel with the low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion system. Other features of note include a large work deck with laboratories, an air-pollution monitoring station, an on-board crane and a drag bar for carrying out geology-related tasks on the seabed. Once the vessel is finished in 2020, it will be the largest ship in the fleet of the owner BSH.
